Ready for GOTV?

The Ragtag Helpdesk team has you covered!

Canvassing

Elections and canvassing go hand in hand, though technology has changed some things about how we canvass. You're now more likely to use apps like MiniVAN as you travel door-to-door and chat directly with voters. Check out our guides on Setting Up MinVAN and Tips for Canvassing.

You can also watch this great SwingLeft Academy video with all the tips you need about how to be an effective canvasser.

Phone banking

Phone banking is another way you can help out a campaign. Phone banking is important because it allows campaigns to reach out to voters, even from a distance. Tools like HubDialer can allow a campaign to avoid dialing disconnected numbers and skip over voicemails, so that you, the volunteer can spend more time connecting with voters. Learn How to use HubDialer for phone banking with our guide.

SwingLeft Academy's video on virtual phone banking will also get you ready to hit the phones!

Text banking

Now you can text voters, too! Sending text messages is popular new way to reach voters far and wide. It’s not quite as simple as texting with friends, so we’ve written a guide on How To Get Started with Hustle, a text banking app. We’ve even got a list of top 10 tips  that will help your no matter what text banking tool you use!

Peer-to-Peer texting tools are designed to help you talk with your circle of friends about voting and campaigns. The concept is based on the idea that since we already have relationships with our friends and family, we're able to have more effective conversations with them than we might with a stranger. Learn about apps like Team, VoterCircle, and how they can help you motivate your buddies to get out and vote.

Campaigns, get ready!

The last weekend before an election is the final push! Campaign staffers have to be prepared for anything. We’ve got tips for volunteers and team members who are using Slack and a guide for campaign staff on managing volunteer shifts to help you maximize efficiency. Also, before your campaign sends another mass email to voters, be sure you’re conscious of the limitations of certain platforms.

Whether the volunteers who come to help your campaign are experienced or brand-new to campaign work, this guide can help you to best leverage their support, even if they’re nervous about doing outreach. With the help of Organizing For Action's training on Get Out The Vote, the Ragtag community learned best practices for talking with voters. If you're interested in tips for having effective conversations with voters, check out their video resources.

Last, but not least, don’t forget to ensure that you're following best practices for digital security. Check out our Security Checklist For Midterm Elections!
